Description
Long Shot Party was a Japanese six-piece band formed in Sendai in 1998, known for their energetic blend of ska and rock music. The group consisted of vocalist and leader sasaji, guitarist Shuichi, bassist SAITARO, drummer PxOxN, trumpeter Ken Iikawa, and saxophonist KJ. Their sound was characterized by a full brass section alongside standard rock instrumentation, which they termed "party rock," a style built on melodic vocals, upbeat rhythms, and positive, forward-looking lyrics.
The band began their career on the indie circuit, releasing their first mini-album, Making Ourself Understood in our Sounds, in January 2000, followed by their first full-length album, Delta Force, in October 2002. They gained wider recognition after signing with the major label DefSTAR Records in October 2007. Their first major single, distance, was released in January 2008 and achieved notable success, peaking at number 25 on the Oricon singles chart. The song served as the second opening theme for the long-running anime series Naruto Shippuden, playing from episode 31 through episode 53.
Following the success of distance, Long Shot Party released the single My Way in May 2008. In January 2009, they released the single Ano Hi Time Machine, which became the opening theme for the anime television series Zoku Natsume Yūjinchō, the second season of Natsume's Book of Friends. The single peaked at number 38 on the Oricon charts. A further single, Heart Beat, followed in August 2009.
The band released a self-titled album in July 2010. After over a decade of activity, Long Shot Party announced their disbandment and formally broke up in December 2010. Despite their relatively short major-label career, their contributions to popular anime soundtracks, particularly distance for Naruto Shippuden, secured their place as a recognized act within the anime music community.
