Description
M TWO-MinaMiru- was a Japanese musical unit formed in early 2000, consisting of vocalist and composer Minami Takayama, vocalist Miru Takayama, and lyricist and music producer Shiina Nagano. The group was a direct offshoot of the renowned J-pop duo TWO-MIX, which featured Minami Takayama and Shiina Nagano. The unit was created after TWO-MIX began producing Miru Takayama, who is Minami Takayama’s cousin, in 1999.
The musical identity of M TWO-MinaMiru- was firmly rooted in the fast-paced electronic pop and techno sound that TWO-MIX was known for, incorporating elements of J-pop and house music. All of their music was written, composed, arranged, and produced by TWO-MIX, with Shiina Nagano handling lyrics and Minami Takayama responsible for composition.
The group is primarily known for its direct connection to anime. Their sole single, 37°C ~微熱戦記~ (37°C ~Binetsu Senki~), was released on February 23, 2000, under the Warner Music Japan label. The title track was used as the ending theme song for the television anime series Bucky - The Incredible Kid, known in Japan as Jibaku-kun. Notably, the version of the song used in the anime was a remix of the B-side track 37°C -0.5℃, arranged in a Rotterdam techno style. The single also featured a third version of the song, 37°C +1.5℃, with all three tracks sharing the same lyrics but featuring different musical arrangements.
The unit’s only album, Single & Single, was released on March 23, 2000. The album is a collection that includes the three singles Miru Takayama had previously released with TWO-MIX under the name Miru Takayama with TWO-Mix: Justice ~Future Mystery~, Kiss, and Rhythmic Youth. It also features the new single 37°C ~微熱戦記~. For the album, the three older tracks were re-recorded by M TWO-MinaMiru- as new versions. The album closes with a medley of all four singles. The earlier single Justice ~Future Mystery~ had itself been used as a theme song for the anime Kindaichi Case Files.
The formation of M TWO-MinaMiru- was a brief project. Shortly after the album’s release, Miru Takayama decided to pause her singing career to study in the United States, leading to the group’s disbandment and the end of her activities as a singer. Despite its short existence, the project represents a significant collaboration between the established production team of TWO-MIX and a new vocalist, creating music specifically for contemporary anime series.
