Description
Sōma Saitō is a Japanese singer-songwriter and voice actor who began his solo music career in 2017 under the SACRA MUSIC label. His musical work is closely tied to anime, both through theme songs he performs and character songs he sings as a voice actor.
Saitō made his artist debut on June 7, 2017, with the single Fish Story. The title track was written, composed, and arranged by musician Masayoshi Oishi, known for his work as a solo artist and as the vocalist for Sound Schedule. His second single, Yoake wa Mada/Hikari Tatsu Ame, was released on September 6, 2017. The track Hikari Tatsu Ame served as the opening theme song for the anime series Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu.
With his third single, Date, released on June 20, 2018, Saitō took on full songwriting duties, writing both the lyrics and music for all tracks on the single. This marked a shift toward a more personally authored musical identity. His first studio album, quantum stranger, followed on December 19, 2018. He continued releasing music, with a second album titled Fictions arriving on September 25, 2024.
As a voice actor, Saitō has performed numerous character songs for the anime series in which he appears. He is also a member of the Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- project, and his work with the group earned him the Singing Award at both the 13th and 16th Seiyu Awards.
Before his professional music career, Saitō played in a band as a guitarist and vocalist beginning in middle school, where he also wrote original songs. His musical tastes include artists such as The Vines, Elliott Smith, Good Dog Happy Men, and Fujifabric. He plays guitar and incorporates his literary interests into his songwriting, often crafting lyrics with strong narrative qualities.
