Description
Maki Kanzaki is a Japanese singer and songwriter whose career includes contributions to anime theme songs and session work for major pop artists. Born in Tokyo, she performed in the live music clubs of Roppongi during her high school years before spending time in the United States. During her stay in America, she worked as a dancer, notably appearing in Janet Jackson's music video for the 1989 song Rhythm Nation.

Upon returning to Japan, Kanzaki launched her professional recording career. She released her debut album, Niji no Fumoto e, in May 1992. Over the following years, she released a total of six singles and four studio albums. Her musical style blended mainstream pop with soulful and rhythmic elements, with some of her work from the early 1990s reflecting the emerging sounds of City Pop and incorporating Motown-style arrangements.

Kanzaki is best known for providing songs for the Fuji Television anime series Tsuyoshi Shikkari Shinasai, which aired from 1992 to 1994. She performed two ending theme songs for the show. The first was GOOD DAY I・N・G, followed by Sono kinisasenaide. Both tracks were included on her best-of compilation album, SEE YOU AGAIN / THE BEST OF MAKI KANZAKI, released in 1996. This compilation also featured the track Watashi ga Ichiban, which was used as a theme song for the TBS drama Kamin-san no Waruguchi 2. The soundtrack album for Tsuyoshi Shikkari Shinasai, released in July 1994, also featured these two songs as credited tracks. Kanzaki performed the ending theme for the 1993 animated film Tsuyoshi Shikkari Shinasai: Tsuyoshi no Time Machine de Shikkari Shinasai, contributing the song GOOD DAY I-N-G.

Beyond her solo work, Kanzaki has worked as a backing vocalist for several prominent Japanese artists, including Hikaru Utada, Ken Hirai, and TRF. She has also performed under the stage name Mickey-T, through which she contributed to music for franchises including Transformers. Her single Sono kinisasenaide was released in May 1994, with lyrics by Tetsuo Kudo and composition and arrangement by Minoru Komorita.
